Bjørn Poulsen was born 1959, and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts 1981 – 1988. He currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.

A sculptor, Bjørn Poulsen constructs the objects he makes out of a combination of readymade materials such as fragmented pieces of pre-fabricated plastic and metal, and iconic model toy sets. His working method is inspired by classical sculpture, in that the process of building the work is one that he sees to be similar and influenced like a classical sculptor building up layers of clay.

His objects have an almost organically formed aesthetic quality, contrasted with the industrial and mass-produced nature of the building materials. His most current works, shown at Henningsen Contemporary in September 2009, from within from the outside can really be related to in terms of the inner metaphorical strength of an ever expansive inner energy, organic forms and muscles. The works are futuristic (body replacements), the use of star wars models and the futurism in the iconic imagery a striking contrast to the forms and shapes of the works.
