Born in 1948, Jes Fomsgaard studied at the Causisk workshop, in Barcelona. His practice spans painting, installation and drawing. A member of the Academy of Fine Arts, he was the Principal of the Fyn Art Academy 1992-99. Fomsgaard was awarded the Eckersberg Medal in 2001 with selected exhibitions incl. Louisianna, Humlebæk Kunstforeningen Gl.Strand, Copenhagen, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen, and DCA Gallery New York. He is represented at the Danish National Gallery and many other museums nationally and internationally.
He says of his practice: "Drawing is the place where initial ideas come to be, helping to identify formal challenges. Stripped from " colour " the line stares back nude and creates their own order. ... To draw is to dissect - the legitimization of curiosity. The use of perspective and mark making enhance the transparent body of the drawing. In this loud and information rich language, the relationships between the lines, or lack thereof, create the form. A dialectical idiom. Drawing is my analytical tool”.
