Troels Aagaard, born in 1970, was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts 1998 – 2004.
As a painter Aagaard constructs his images in a digital and filmic way, exhibitions have included “Til Vægs”, “Teaching an old dog new tricks”, “Don´t believe the hype” and “Breaking the fourth Wall”. His paintings, curving and winding, protruding and resisting, refuse in the traditional sense to be paintings. By breaking out of the frame, from the wall into the gallery space, he inevitably creates a sense that the painting is an object, moving away from two-dimensional representation. The appearance of the work changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The viewer unable to experience the work fully from a static position, is forced to view it in motion, becoming in short a kinetic onlooker. Often the paintings focus on concepts such as: sound, time, motion, or space. They materialize as a contradiction between the digitalized initial ideas and the resulting analogue, handheld painting. There is a flaw in the logic between the "new" digital and the "older" analogue, temporal similarity becomes another element in the painting.
