Morten Skrøder Lund
“MOIST ENVELOPE” 18. september – 18. oktober 2008
MOIST ENVELOPE is the title of the new exhibition by Danish artist Morten Skrøder Lund. The show opens at henningsen contemporary gallery on September 18. 2008. Morten Skrøder Lund shows paintings strongly influenced by abstract techniques, and represents what seems to be intense expressionistic feelings. But Skrøder breaks away from these emotions and emphasizes the construction in the painting rather than the obvious expressiveness. He hereby creates randomness and lets the painting be an example on concrete selections and especially de-selections.
With MOIST ENVELOPE Skrøder refers to the interest of contrast between the surface and space. He then tries to minimize this contrast. For the artist it evolves around what you expect of a flat painting in a given space, and how you veil and unveil this correlation which is both conflicting and in distinct relation. The message in Skrøder’s art is therefore clearly undelivered and it is exactly this obscure message his exhibition is about
Morten Skrøder Lund: “I think that when you talk about the expanded painting it isn’t necessarily about breaking fixed boundaries in framing or install it in new ways. I think that the extension lies in the dialogue around the work. The process where critique and reflection occurs and this makes up half of the art work for me”.
MOIST ENVELOPE can contain something obsolete, but also important. Something new but indifferent. Moist envelope can also be a postcard. Morten Skrøder Lund therefore circles very concrete about not being concrete. But at the same time he tries not to circle about anything.
